Torquay 1948 was the site for the Olympic regatta when the Games came to post war Britain. The Olympics that year were know as the 'Austerity Games', as a war weary country struggled to host an event on a shoestring.
The story of how the Fairey Firefly was chosen for the Games, how the Selection Trials were run and the events of the Olympic Regatta have been captured in detail by FirstBeatMedia and presented to the Firefly Class at their National Championships, in Torquay, in 2008.
2009 will see a development of this lecture given at other clubs, with a podcast of the talk loaded up onto the site.
